Adidas says it’s a continuation of “Cleared for Take-Off” theme of the Rose 2, so Adidas proceeded to do a literal take on the tagline and embossed a Google Earth view of Derrick’s Englewood roots right into the toe box. If you look closely, you’ll find his mom waving at you. Just kidding.

On the tongue, you’ll find “ROSE” displayed proudly. You know, just in case you forget it’s Derrick Rose’s signature shoe.

adiZero Crazy Light fans should find this view familiar too. The Rose 2.5 shares that shoe’s outsole traction system, and incorporates engineered thickness for maximum grip in high wear perimeter zones, and less bulk in low perimeter zones. Translation: faster on-court movement and acceleration.

The Rose 2.5 also carries over the Crazy Light’s SPRINTFRAME and SPRINTWEB engineering for maximum motion control, superior support, and reduced weight. The shoe adds the GEOFIT memory foam collar to the equation for a more secure fit. It does feel better around the ankles compared to the Crazy Light, yet it’s as nimble as ever at 11.9 ounces. Just to jog your memory, the Crazy Light weighed in at 9.8 ounces.

The shoe also has a slot inside for the adidas miCoach SPEED_CELL system, which tracks athletic performance. Tune in for a feature regarding this adidas gadget in the coming days.
